And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. – Philippians 1:6 (ESV)
As I said last month, it’s been a crazy almost twelve months for Mary and me, and here we are coming up on Labor Day Weekend! As I am sure I have mentioned before, autumn is my favorite season! There’s a feel about it, a distinct and undeniable aura that surrounds it. Being a college football fan in a football crazy area, I would naturally favor autumn, or fall, as I prefer to call it, but of course, it’s much deeper than that!
Invigorated by our new families and ministries, we look forward to a fall filled with fun activities! We also look forward to a season of fellowship and study as we hope to have at least a couple of Small Group Bible studies
Let’s also think of the fall as a season of reflection and planning, where we take the time to reflect on the past year as we plan for the New Year! We will soon begin the planning processes for next year, including receiving nominations for church officers and working on the 2019 Budget.
Speaking of fall, Chuck Swindoll says it so well, “Quietly, without flare or fanfare, God graciously moves upon our lives, taking us from summer to autumn, as season when He mysteriously writes His agenda on the tablets of our hearts. Patiently He waits for change to begin. Without exception, it does. And we reflect on that as well.”
As we move into this fall, may we all be encouraged and strengthened by the Apostle Paul’s great promise in Philippians 1:6. As the ESV Study Bible text note says so well, “Genuine spiritual progress is rooted in what God has done, is doing, and will do. His faithfulness ensures that he will be with believers until Jesus returns.”
Let’s rest in this great promise this fall, as we enjoy the season while planning for the future!
